Some thoughts about Ann Arbor - 2008

(my August 2008 comment about things to do in the area)

Ann Arbor Hands on Science Museum

But seriously, Zingerman's Deli. Zingerman's stopped shipments to Ohio stores on July 27, so no more Zingerman's bread at The Andersons. Can also shop at the Zingerman's Bakehouse out by I-94 and the State Street exit, but it's fun to visit their deli in the Kerrytown District. We were there a couple Sundays ago. In the afternoon. And the deli and the area were alive with people.

Toledo Area's Dueling Rib-off Events

(my July 2008 comment)

The two area rib-offs occur on back-to-back weekends at the beginning of August. The old Northwest Ohio Rib-Off that was held in downtown Toledo is now located at the Lucas County Fairgrounds. I think this is the third summer for that rib-off to be held at the fairgrounds. A new downtown Toledo rib-off was created to replace the Northwest Ohio Rib-Off.

Art on the Mall - University of Toledo - 2008

(my late July 2008 reminder post)

Today, July 27, is the Art on the Mall exhibit at the University of Toledo.

More than 100 artists have been selected to display a broad variety of work at The University of Toledo's 16th annual Art on the Mall juried art exhibit Sunday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Centennial Mall in the center of Main Campus. Most of the 115 artists have UT or Medical University of Ohio connections, whether as alumni, former students, faculty, staff or other ties. The art fair also may include up to 25 non-affiliated artists.

Glass, photography, ceramics, jewelry, watercolor and oil paintings, wood, fiber, pen and ink, mixed media and sculpture will cover one of UT's most beautiful locations. Children's activities, including face painting and art activities, will be offered throughout the day, and live music will be played as well.

Backyard photos from July 16 and 18, 2008

My favorite Oak Openings native plant growing in our backyard is the Swamp Milkweed. The tiny, intricately-designed, sweet-smelling flowers attract a wide variety of insects, including the Monarch Butterfly. Last year, our patch of Swamp Milkweed hosted several Monarch Butterfly caterpillars.
